Nature Background
Our Strategies / Our Commitment to Environment

Preserving the Nature

Nature is not just the backdrop of our destinations, it is their greatest value. We develop tourism areas with a deep respect for natural landscapes, ecosystems, and biodiversity, ensuring they are protected as we grow. Through thoughtful planning and responsible practices, we create destinations where nature, people, and long-term prosperity can thrive together.

In 2018-2019, we achieved a significant milestone by implementing initiatives that reduced carbon emissions by 15%. This effort not only contributed to a healthier environment but also set a precedent for future sustainability projects.

Decarbonization Roadmap
Kuntul Perak (Egretta Garzetta) spotted within the ITDC area

ITDC is advancing its sustainability agenda through a Decarbonization Roadmap that guides the development of a low-carbon tourism ecosystem. The roadmap aligns operational excellence with climate responsibility, ensuring that environmental considerations are embedded across planning, development, and area management.

Through energy efficiency measures, renewable energy adoption, optimized infrastructure systems, and proactive emissions management, ITDC is reducing its carbon footprint while supporting resilient and future-ready destinations.

This roadmap reflects ITDC's long-term commitment to building a more responsible and resilient tourism ecosystem.

Our Environmental Focus

Our environmental priorities reflect the key environmental challenges and opportunities across our destinations. By focusing on these areas, we ensure that environmental protection goes hand in hand with operational excellence and long-term destination resilience.

Our Environmental Targets

We set measurable goals to ensure continuous progress toward sustainability. These targets reflect our commitment to reducing emissions, improving resource efficiency, and enhancing environmental stewardship across all destinations we manage.

Climate Resilience and Emission Management

Achieve 100% compliance with international climate reporting frameworks, including IFRS S1, IFRS S2, and TCFD
Reduce cumulative Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by 2.40% against the 2024 baseline
Establish an ISO 20121:2024-certified Net-Zero Event framework for all vendors and tenants across destination workshops, townhalls, and major festivals
SDG 7 SDG 12 SDG 13

Energy Efficiency

Integrate a centralized energy monitoring system to enable real-time operational oversight through the Integrated Smart Utility Management platform
Deploy real-time energy usage tracking powered by Digital Flow Metering (IoT) integrated into the Integrated Smart Utility Management system for end-to-end digital energy governance
Mobilize Renewable Energy (RE) into daily operations and finalize the 2027–2030 RE Feasibility Study & Deployment Roadmap
Optimize solar panel and LNG performance by linking Digital Flow Metering (IoT) directly to the Command Center for real-time detection of consumption anomalies and gas leaks
SDG 7 SDG 12 SDG 13

Waste Management

Accelerate waste separation at the source and composting across priority destinations, backed by comprehensive Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Circular Economy studies
Launch an integrated waste management recording system with an initial coverage of ≥70% of facilities across priority destinations on a monthly basis
Reduce the accumulation of residual waste sent to landfills by >5% against the 2026 baseline
Conduct a Feasibility Study for the development of a dedicated Regional Hazardous Waste (B3) TPS Facility
Integrate the internal waste tracking system directly with the official KLHK FESTRONIK platform
Perform a Feasibility Study and construct a licensed Regional Hazardous Waste (B3) TPS as an authorized collection hub for the area
SDG 12

Water Stewardship

Conduct comprehensive Source Water Risk Screenings and execute targeted Water Source Conservation Plans across priority recharge zones
Formulate the 2026–2030 Water Source Conservation Plan, outlining targeted action plans, priority locations, strategic partners, and key performance indicators
Perform the ISO 14046 Water Footprint gap assessment while strengthening internal water auditing capabilities to ensure sustainable water management
Implement ISO 22000 certification for the Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) operational system to guarantee high-standard drinking water safety
Integrate wastewater treatment systems (Lagoon) with drinking water production (SWRO & WWRO) into a unified closed-loop management system to maximize regional water efficiency
SDG 6

Safeguarding Biodiversity

Biodiversity & No Deforestation Policy (2026): Formally enact the Biodiversity & No Deforestation Policy as the official reference for destination operations and future area developments
AMDAL Environmental Compliance Mapping: Map sensitive areas, protected zones, and buffer regions to compile the Environmental Aspect & Impact Risk Register, establishing a Systematic AMDAL Compliance Register across all destinations
Conduct comprehensive Biodiversity Stewardship training for 100% of designated Person in Charge (PIC) personnel across operations
Fully establish the Biodiversity Management Plan (BMP) across ITDC Group and integrate it into the ISO 14001 Environmental Aspect & Impact Register
SDG 13 SDG 15

Our Environmental Initiatives

We translate our commitments into real actions through various environmental programs implemented across destinations. Our initiatives focus on renewable energy adoption, waste reduction, mangrove restoration, and eco-conscious infrastructure development.

Mangrove Rehabilitation Program

Restoring coastal ecosystems plays a crucial role in enhancing climate resilience. By revitalizing mangroves, salt marshes, and coral reefs, we can create natural barriers against rising sea levels and extreme weather.

Mangrove Rehabilitation

Green Energy Transition

Implementing solar power and energy-efficient systems in sustainable tourism facilities, reducing dependence on fossil fuels while optimizing operational performance across our destinations.

Green Energy Transition

Clean Destination Movement

Reducing single-use plastics and promoting circular waste segregation among local communities through education, infrastructure, and community-led environmental programs.
